One-third of Americans (32%) have used a cell phone or a smartphone to access the Internet for emailing, instant messaging, or searching for information. The amount of mobile Internet usage is up by one-third since December 2007, when 24 percent of Americans had gone online via a mobile device.
The expectation is that mobile device access to the internet will continue to rise as technology makes it more inexpensive. With that in mind it is becoming more apparent that your website should be accessible by many types of browsers.
I was recently traveling out of town to attend my brothers wedding. We were supposed to attend the rehearsal dinner at a local mexican restaurant. On the way to the general area the restaurant was located in I wanted to find out specifically where so I would know what exit to take off the interstate. I searched Google and found the restaurant’s website however I was unable to view the flash website from my Iphone. I couldn’t get the phone number, address, much less the map with directions.
I actually had to find the phone number on anther site so I could call them to find out where they were located.
If you have a flash home page or website you need to know two things.
- It will be difficult or impossible for some mobile browsers (i.e. Safari) to view.
- A flash site is not going to optimize for top search engine rankings.
Flash can be very attractive to visitor but make sure you have an html alternative.
Optigroove can help you by building you an html site to help with rankings and alternatives for visitors who can’t view flash with their browser. Give us a call and let us help.
